The challenge
A website for a restaurant in Athens, next to the Acropolis, speaks to two audiences. Locals look for where to eat tonight; tourists search in English on their phone after leaving the museum. Both want to see the menu, photos of the terrace and a quick way to book a table.
A restaurant that collects customer details through forms and loads Google Maps also has to comply with GDPR. It needs a proper consent banner, privacy and cookie policies, and a consent checkbox on its forms. On top of that, the English version needs clean English URLs to be found on Google by visitors from abroad.
What we built
We built the site in WordPress with Elementor Pro, in Greek and English with hreflang. The homepage presents the roof garden, the kitchen with seasonal produce from Greek farmers, and the wine cellar with wines from small Greek wineries. It also shows the restaurant's TripAdvisor rating, which matters a lot to foreign visitors.
The "Book a table" button stays in the header and opens a booking form. There are Our story, Menu, Gallery and Contact pages, with a form, phone number, address, map and opening hours for every day of the week.
During a site audit we moved the English version to English URLs, with 301 redirects from the old ones, so the site kept its Google rankings. We set up Complianz for cookie consent, made the map load only after consent, wrote the privacy and cookie policies and added a consent checkbox to the forms. SEO runs on Rank Math and schema.org.
