The challenge
An optical store e-shop has its own requirements. Customers search differently depending on what they want: sunglasses by gender, prescription frames for children, contact lenses by type (for myopia, toric, multifocal, colored) or simply a specific brand such as Ray-Ban or Prada.
A local store with years in the market also needs to explain things that only concern optics, such as reimbursement for glasses from EOPYY (Greece's national health insurer), and to offer the payment methods Greek shoppers use, from card to cash on delivery.
What we built
We built the e-shop on WordPress with WooCommerce, Elementor Pro and the WoodMart theme. The menu splits the catalog into sunglasses, prescription glasses, contact lenses, lens solutions and accessories (cords, chains), with subcategories for men, women and children. Products are linked to brands such as Ray-Ban, Prada, Gucci, Versace, Lacoste, Bolon and Charlie Max, so customers can filter straight to the brand they want.
For payments we connected a bank through Cardlink (a Greek card processor) for fee-free card payments, and the store also accepts IRIS (Greece's instant payment system), bank transfer and cash on delivery. Shipping with Speedex (a Greek courier) costs €3.5 and is free over €50, as the payment methods page states clearly. With WooCommerce Product Add-Ons a product can have extra options before it goes into the cart.
We wrote a separate page with step-by-step instructions for prescription glasses reimbursement from EOPYY, along with pages for returns, shipping and privacy. There is a customer account, wishlist, product comparison, search, newsletter and automatic translation into 7 languages with GTranslate.
